Wiscasset Art Walk Begins, 6-13

The summer of 2013 will be a celebration of art and culture for Wiscasset area residents and visitors in large part because of Wiscasset’s first ever Art Walk events.  Art walks take place in towns across Maine and the nation; they are free, self-guided walking tours with an emphasis on sharing art.  On these evenings, artists’ studios, galleries, and shops stay open late and invite visitors in to see, hear, and experience art.

Wiscasset Art Walk will be held on the last Thursdays of June, July, August and September from 5pm – 8pm.  Participating galleries on June 27 include John Sideli Fine Art, Maine Art Gallery, Sylvan Gallery, and Wiscasset Bay Gallery. Local restaurants will become venues for art: twig artist Susy Perrine will be making her charming twig bracelets in Treats during their wine tasting, while the new coffee shop in town, Mac’s Place, will host the dynamic music duo Music with Chitlins.  Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts will have a ‘pop-up’ gallery on the Main St. dock featuring ceramic artists demonstrating their techniques on a wheel.

Wiscasset will have a fun and festival-like atmosphere during its summer Art Walks with street performers and plein air painters at work as well.  Don’t be surprised if you hear lovely harp music or a brass band coming from unexpected places, such as the lawn behind the historic Nichols Sortwell house or the Sunken Garden.  Wiscasset Art Walk will celebrate art in its many diverse forms, both in and out of doors.
