Maine’s mid-coast region is rich in the arts, and this Thursday, the season finale of Wiscasset Art Walk will celebrate them grandly: the hand-craftsmanship our region is known for, visual arts in paint, print, and textiles, literature, local history, and music. In addition to Wiscasset’s remarkable galleries, antique stores, unique shops, and historic sites, special features are in place to delight Art Walk visitors.
The R. Keith Rendall Gallery is featuring a selection of hand-crafted tables by Edgecomb furniture maker Eben Blaney with musical accompaniment by the duo of Lorel Nazzaro (violin) and Patsy Dickenson (cello), both members of the Midcoast Orchestra.
As you walk Main Street, the sweet sounds coming from the Wiscasset Bay Gallery are from Jubilee, an Alna duo for flute and cello. Next door, Mac’s Place will be featuring the paintings of local artist Jon Luoma while around the corner in John Sideli Fine Art, musician and instrument maker Jonathan Waldo will be playing classical guitar.
Marston House, a treasure trove of antique textiles and house wares, is pleased to be hosting author Joan Osofsky for a signing of her new book, Love Where You Live. Historic New England’s Nickels-Sortwell House will be offering guided tours, and a visit to the neighboring Sunken Garden will provide a moment of serene delight.
Across the street, Sylvan Gallery features the work of Asian Accents – exceptional hand-made jackets featuring unique and varied international textiles. Treats will be hosting a wine tasting as well as exhibiting the paintings of artist Mathew O’Donnell. Need further refreshment? Stop in at the Craft Shack on the Pier for a free mini-whoopee pie, courtesy of Judi’s Country Store & Bakery. Also at the Craft Shack, watch illustrator Sean Closson bring some of his quirky caricatures to life on paper.
The street itself comes alive on this evening with the sounds of the dynamic musical duo Married with Chitlins, heralding Art Walkers as they make the rounds. For a very special way to experience the flavor of Wiscasset Village, climb aboard the Woodfield Farm Wagon Ride with Bill and Bob, the sweetest one-ton Belgian draft horses to ever be part of an art walk, boarding in front of Red’s Eats!
It’s a full evening of art and music as we bid the season adieu during the final Wiscasset Art Walk 2013 on Thursday, September 26h, 5pm – 8pm, throughout Wiscasset Village. Galleries, studios, and shops will be open late and serving hospitality for all Art Walkers – a grand finale to a grand season. Look for the blue and gold balloons at participating venues; strolling maps available at each site.
Major sponsors for the WAW season are The First, Carleton Realty, and Wiscasset Ames True Value. Additional sponsors include Big Barn Coffee, Fogg Art Painting Restoration & Custom Framing, and Sheepscot Harbor Village and Resort.
